10 May May Feature Facilitator – Ms. Kamlah Milad
Heading into the second last month of school before summer vacation, we’d like to introduce Ms. Kamlah Milad. Ms. Milad has been with Xspace for a year and a half now and facilitates English, History and Social Studies courses. Born and raised in Oklahoma, USA, she moved to Canada in 2019 with her family and settled in Montreal.

Recalling her own online learning experiences, Ms. Milad says that she first took online courses in university but struggled with them. She found them impersonal as there was little interaction other than posting comments online. However, she developed better time management from this experience of taking online courses. Ms. Milad comments that online learning is much different now due to the live virtual classes where there is more interaction on different video conferencing platforms like Zoom which is much closer to how a physical classroom functions.
One of her favourite things about working at Xspace is getting to work with students in small groups or individually. It brings her so much joy to see them succeed in the classroom—and elsewhere. Xspace is much more like family than just a typical school. She gets to know so much more about the students than in a typical classroom and this helps to form a greater relationship where she can see even their little successes in life. She especially enjoys hearing about their goals and dreams—and then seeing them get into their dream universities or completing their courses with high marks! Her students have taught her that nothing is impossible when you work hard and never give up. She feels super lucky to have had the most amazing students here at Xspace and they always impress her with their diligence and drive for success.
Ms. Milad’s advice to students: Preview course materials and print out course schedule to see the big picture and know what to expect each week. If you are taking English and need to read a novel, it really helps to preview the questions so as to stay focused on the reading material. Lastly, reach out to the course teacher to clarify feedback and ask specific questions. It is especially important to review their comments and apply them to the next assignment.
Other interesting questions for Ms. Milad:
If you could have a super power, what would it be?
I would love it if I could have Wanda’s super powers (from the Avengers). She can move things with her mind, complete more than one task at the same time, AND control other people’s minds. I feel that I can never get everything done—so this would definitely help! Plus getting other people to do what I want (especially my five-year-old daughter) would help. J
What is one food you cannot live without?
COOKIES! I would rather have cookies than any other dessert option. For my birthday, I’ll always opt for cookies over cake!
One more random fact about you:
I am really good at solving puzzles on Wheel of Fortune and it’s a small dream of mine to one day appear on the show!
