M.O.O.S.E. Elementary

M.O.O.S.E. (My Open Online School Experience) is a blended learning program designed for elementary school-aged English language learners.
M.O.O.S.E Program

Xspace is excited to have launched its first blended elementary program, M.O.O.S.E. (My Open Online School Experience). Targeting ELL students ages 5-12, M.O.O.S.E. seeks to provide a personalized educational journey for children through a dual-instructor model that can bring the most appropriate digital and online resources to each child. One instructor creates and adjusts the curriculum based on each student’s learning ability; the other instructor facilitates class activities and engage students with course materials. Although instruction happen in an online setting, class activities and course assignments extend to the offline environment where children and family are invited to explore their local community for a hands-on learning experience.

Curriculum

Currently, M.O.O.S.E. offers English Language Arts (ELA) and Science courses to students. M.O.O.S.E. courses are designed specifically for ELL students, and are based upon the British Columbia Ministry of Education elementary curriculum.  M.O.O.S.E. ELA courses focus on reading and responding to a variety of materials, including story and informational text, and on Canadian content and worldviews. M.O.O.S.E. Science courses focus on inquiry and conceptual learning, helping students develop essential scientific vocabulary and language skills, as well as hands-on scientific inquiry skills.  In the M.O.O.S.E. program, students are guided to think critically, creatively and reflectively, while building strong communication and digital literacy skills important to 21st century learning.
